Original abstract

In the rapidly evolving landscape of Library and Information Science Education, the integration of transformative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool is fundamental with profound implications. This paper as a conceptual research, it unveils the multifaceted role of AI in LIS education and its far-reaching impact on library services. It delves into the educational paradigm, exploring how AI augments curriculum, pedagogy, and the skills required of future LIS professionals. It covers how AI-powered chatbots and virtual assistants provide 24/7 support, transforming user experiences and redefining the role of librarians. AI-driven collection management and metadata enhancement streamline library functions, optimizing resource allocation and improving user satisfaction. Ultimately, this study underscores the imperative of embracing AI as a catalyst for progress and its pivotal role in the future of library and information science education, fostering innovation, efficiency, and responsible information stewardship in libraries. Hence, covers these roles: AI in Information Literacy and Education Programs, AI-Driven Research and Knowledge Discovery, AI for Collection Development, Cataloguing and Metadata Management, AI-Powered Information Retrieval Systems and finally, AI-Powered Virtual Assistants for Library Services. Challenges Associated with AI-Driven Technology and Way forward are also discussed. Therefore, as AI continues to evolve, LIS education must adapt too, in order to prepare future librarians and information professionals in AI-driven world.
