Original abstract
Abstract This study explores the impact of entrepreneurial traits on the international performance (IP) of Chinese small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the digital age. Utilizing a qualitative approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with Chinese SME entrepreneurs to examine how personality traits influence the adoption of digital platforms for international expansion. The findings suggest that these entrepreneurial traits are crucial for enhancing SMEs’ competitive advantage in the global market, particularly when they are integrated with digital technologies. This study contributes to the resource-based view by highlighting the significance of intangible assets, specifically entrepreneurial traits, as strategic resources for achieving a sustained competitive advantage. It establishes a novel connection between digital entrepreneurship and IP, offering insights for SMEs seeking to leverage digital tools for global growth. This study also identifies the importance of developing these traits through targeted training and continuous learning to maximize international success in the rapidly evolving digital marketplace.
