Reflections on academic interlocution in arts research"The only way to grow healthy, robust social fibre is through building an independent and confident culture.And the only way to build a confident culture is through encouraging the arts, in all their forms, by creating the conditions to tell our own stories" -Ben Quilty ( 2026)Creative Matters Researchers in the Making: No Art.Edition 11, 2026 became a community of practice and experimentation to be published alongside the original paper or artistic work, responding with a healthy 'ambiguity'(Macdonald 2025) that made few conclusions or judgements, except to focus on the critical benefit of this research for others, over and above how it was of benefit to the individual researcher.It was an epistolary process that we entered into for this edition, done with the generosity as well critical framing of our creative and academic interlocutors, who took inspiration from ekphrastic and criticalcreative adaptation practices -to respond to human action with human action, making clear that arts and arts education can encompass the critical, the aesthetic, the associative, the affective and more.
