Original abstract

This study aims to explore the design strategies and practical pathways for post-reading activities in senior high school English classes under the guidance of the activity-based approach to English learning. Adopting a case study method, the research used Unit 3, "The New Age of Invention," from the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press compulsory Book3 as instructional material, and designed and implemented a post-reading task centred on a project-based learning activity titled "Young Inventors." The teaching practice results show that, grounded in real-life problems, the students successfully produced diverse invention concepts covering areas such as smart storage, emotional regulation, human-pet communication, and emotional companionship, and completed formal English patent application letters. The findings indicate that post-reading activities designed under the activity-based approach to English learning can effectively promote the transfer and innovation of students' language knowledge, and facilitate the synergistic development of language competence and thinking quality through the process of solving authentic problems.
