Abstract The objective of this study is to provide a comprehensive review of the current state of electric vehicle (EV) adoption intentions, evaluate relevant theories, and explore factors influencing EV adoption intention. To better understand the theories and factors examined in the field of EV adoption intention, this study used the TCCM approach to review 103 peer-reviewed research publications from the Scopus database, focusing on consumer adoption intention and purchase intentions. The PRISMA framework was applied to report the identification, screening, and inclusion of research papers. The Theory of Planned Behavior is the most widely used theory. The main factors influencing EV adoption intentions are grouped into three categories: psychological, contextual, and external. This study advances current research by systematically applying the TCCM framework to examine how mediating and moderating factors shape EV adoption intentions, moving from mere descriptive classifications to a more process-oriented understanding. Data analysis techniques were also reviewed. The findings provide an overview of the common research methods used to investigate and evaluate the relationships among factors influencing EV adoption intentions. This systematic literature review broadens the perspective by including 103 research publications, expanding the evidence base beyond previous reviews. The review covers recent studies up to December 2024, providing a current understanding of research in this area. Additionally, previous reviews offered limited insights into mediators and moderators, and this study aims to identify the mediating and moderating variables examined in earlier research.
