Original abstract
The concept of the collective unconscious, formulated by C. G. Jung, posits the existence of universal psychological structures that manifest through archetypal patterns in human experience. Despite extensive theoretical discussion, empirical evidence regarding the manifestation of archetypes in individuals with total blindness remains limited. This study presents a qualitative case analysis of 22 dreams reported by seven totally blind participants to examine whether, and in what form, archetypal themes emerge in the absence of visual experience. The findings reveal the presence of motifs corresponding to universal experiential structures, including relationships with parental figures, care, protection, challenges, and transitions. These themes appear through auditory, tactile, emotional, and cognitive modalities, indicating that symbolic formation does not depend on visual perception. The results highlight the need for further empirical research on modality-specific aspects of symbolization in blindness and contribute to a broader understanding of the universal nature of archetypal structures.
