One-line summary

This study aims to examine whether the attitudes of lower-, middle-, and upper-level healthcare managers toward artificial intelligence (AI) influence their decision-making styles.

Engineering notes

The results reveal that positive attitudes toward AI do not significantly affect intuitive and avoidant decision-making but have a positive effect on rational and independent decision-making styles.

Original abstract

This study aims to examine whether the attitudes of lower-, middle-, and upper-level healthcare managers toward artificial intelligence (AI) influence their decision-making styles. The research was conducted in the Western Black Sea Region of Turkey, covering five provinces (Karabuk, Kastamonu, Bolu, Duzce, and Zonguldak) and seven tertiary-level hospitals, including training and research, specialty, and university hospitals. Although the total population consisted of 455 managers, data were collected from 352 participants using a convenience sampling method due to accessibility constraints. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 22 and AMOS 22 statistical software. The findings indicate that healthcare managers generally exhibit high levels of positive attitudes and low levels of negative attitudes toward AI. In terms of decision-making styles, managers demonstrate intuitive, rational, and independent decision-making tendencies, while occasionally displaying avoidant behavior. The results reveal that positive attitudes toward AI do not significantly affect intuitive and avoidant decision-making but have a positive effect on rational and independent decision-making styles. Conversely, negative attitudes toward AI negatively influence intuitive and avoidant decision-making, while having no significant impact on rational and independent decision-making.
