Original abstract
Purpose: This study aims to explore the advanced and mature workplace training systems and policies in China and Australia.Design/methodology/approach: This study reports a comparative study of workplace training systems and policies in China and Australia based on document and policy analyses. Findings: The study mainly examines the similarities and differences in workplace training systems and policies in China’s Fortune 500 companies and Australian multinational companies. The study also suggests the areas for changes for both Chinese and Australian businesses. The study found that workplace training topics in Chinese and Australian businesses differed with distinctive purposes and focuses. However, it is similar that both China and Australia had government and private training providers involved in the provisions of workplace training with varied training content. Moreover, China should follow Australian models to develop national qualifications framework and recognition framework to standardize various formal and non-formal training activities. Originality: The study may have significant implications for workplace training design and practices in China, Australia and other educational contexts.
